Formed in 1976 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, the band released their first album in 1979 and had scored 4 top twenty hits by 1981. They went on to have 8 top 20 UK albums within the next 10 years including the mega selling Wheels of Steel which hit number 5 in 1980 and their double platinum Denim And Leather (1981). Tours of America, an appearance at the Monsters Of Rock festival at Castle Donington, and the live album The Eagle Has Landed (1982) (according to Melody Maker “one of the best live recordings of the decade”) followed. In January 2009, they released their latest studio album Into The Labyrinth. To date Saxon have sold over 10 million units worldwide, released 26 albums and are still going from strength to strength.
