Saxon Celebrate St. George’s Day

English heavy metal legends Saxon kick off the UK leg of their Battalions of Steel World Tour in style at the Forum in London on April 23rd, St. George’s Day.

Biff and the band agree with Boris Johnson’s statement that England’s patron saint’s day has been ignored for far too long and, being men of action (and purveyors of damn fine British Heavy Metal) they will rock hard with their fans on 23rd April.

As Biff says, “You can’t ignore it. It’s our day – stand up and be counted!”

Saxon’s awesome 1980 hit “Wheels of Steel” features in the soundtrack of Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned, released in February this year and the band performed a rocking set at the launch party in Edinburgh.

Formed in 1976 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, the band released their first album in 1979 and had scored 4 top twenty hits by 1981. They went on to have 8 top 20 UK albums within the next 10 years including the mega selling Wheels of Steel which hit number 5 in 1980 and their double platinum Denim And Leather (1981). Tours of America, an appearance at the Monsters Of Rock festival at Castle Donington, and the live album The Eagle Has Landed (1982) (according to Melody Maker “one of the best live recordings of the decade”) followed. In January 2009, they released their latest studio album Into The Labyrinth. To date Saxon have sold over 10 million units worldwide, released 26 albums and are still going from strength to strength.
