Garth McLean is a Senior Intermediate III Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher based in Los Angeles, who was diagnosed with relapsing remitting Multiple Sclerosis in 1996. Garth shares the gift of Iyengar yoga around the world and is a truly inspirational teacher for both ‘regular’ students and those with MS and other neurological conditions. He says: “the practice of Iyengar Yoga is accessible to all. The beauty is it can be adapted to suit whatever condition the student may be facing at whatever level of ability”.

Garth states: “In the workshops we seek to soothe and balance the nervous and immune systems to calm the chaos and restore a sense of balance…physically and emotionally … according to the individual’s needs and ability. Health is simply a by-product of proper yoga practice. Through iconic alignment of asana (physical postures) and pranayama (breathing) we can begin to fortify stability and mobility of body in order to keep mobile and endure what may not be cured. Once we arrive to ourselves and own our truth, we can then work to align the body, the peripheral nerves with the motor nerves, in such a fashion that the body is given the opportunity to realize its potential. BKS Iyengar opened up a door to possibility and gave me the tools to take action to move beyond my limitations with courage and caution.”
McLean has been teaching Iyengar yoga to students in the UK (London and Home counties, Manchester and Edinburgh) and around the world with varying levels of ability for almost 10 years.
In addition to his daily practice he also offers insight to Iyengar teachers worldwide to deal with their own students who may suffer from such conditions.
As a trained and experienced actor, McLean has also penned and performs his solo theatrical play “Looking For Lightning” about his journey in Hollywood and the yoga world.
