“20 Years & Out”
Thunder’s Farewell Tour

Support bands announced

The ticket buying frenzy for Thunder’s Farewell tour is still in full swing and tickets are selling swiftly. Manchester is now sold out, and there are very few tickets left for Sheffield

There are still some tickets left for the band’s FINAL SHOW at the Hammersmith Apollo on 11th July, after the hasty change of venue due to the previous venue selling out in 46 hours!

Thunder decided that rather than take out a single support band for their final fling, they would invite 4 bands to be their very special guests on the dates. All the bands are friends of the band or have worked with Thunder in the past, so there could be some wild nights on the road…..and maybe even on the stage!

Support bands for the shows are as follows:

Logan (Glasgow & Manchester)
Airrace (Sheffield & Cambridge) - recently reformed
The Quireboys (Newcastle & Nottingham)
The Electric Boys (Wolverhampton & London) - recently reformed

We've played loads of fantastic shows over the last 20 years, but we want all the shows between now and when we go to be the best we've ever done. We really hope you'll want to be there to help us to do that. And Thanks for everything” - Thunder

Thunder are (for the next 4 months): Danny Bowes – vocals; Luke Morley – guitars & vocals; Ben Matthews – guitar & keyboards; Chris Childs – bass and Harry James – drums.

Thunder formed in 1989, releasing their debut album Backstreet Symphony in 1990, which went Gold, as did their follow-up Laughing on Judgement Day, which peaked at number 2 in the UK album charts. Their legendary appearance in 1990 at Monsters of Rock at Donington cemented their place in the hearts of British rock fans. Twenty years later, after twenty top-50 singles, 9 studio albums and a 2-year hiatus, this really is the end of the trail for Thunder.

“20 Years & Out” – Thunder’s Farewell Tour

CHANGE OF VENUE & NEW DATE ADDED

When Thunder announced 2 weeks ago that after 20 years they were calling it a day and bowing out with a final tour, they had no idea that they would spark such a ticket buying frenzy. The final show at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Academy sold out in 46 hours. This unbelievable demand has prompted a hasty change of venue to accommodate the disappointed fans. They will now perform their last ever UK show on 11th July at the Hammersmith Apollo.

And that’s not all… the lack of a Scottish show prompted Glasgow’s 96.3 Rock Radio to launch a petition. To date, almost 1,000 fans have voted with their signatures persuading the band to add a Glasgow date on 1st July at the O2 Academy.

Each of the 5 musicians has been spending more time on activities outside the band. Having discussed it at very great length, Thunder have now announced their last ever UK tour, during which they will say thank you and bid an extremely fond farewell to their fans and rock it up for the very last time.

We've played loads of fantastic shows over the last 20 years, but we want all the shows between now and when we go to be the best we've ever done. We really hope you'll want to be there to help us to do that. And Thanks for everything” - Thunder

Thunder are (for the next 5 months): Danny Bowes – vocals; Luke Morley – guitars & vocals; Ben Matthews – guitar & keyboards; Chris Childs – bass and Harry James – drums.

Thunder in Kidney Stones Drama

Thunder have announced today that drummer Harry James is unable to do Thunder’s UK tour, which kicks off tomorrow (Friday). Unfortunately, he was admitted to hospital this week with kidney stones. Harry is obviously gutted, but rather than cancel the tour, the band have brought in a replacement…John Tonks, an old friend of the band, has stepped in to help out at short notice. He also has a shaved head, which is of course an extra bonus. Harry ended up in hospital earlier this week after collapsing in agony. The diagnosis of kidney stones, while very painful, does not pose any danger, but does require immediate treatment. Thunder have said “they know it won't be the same without Harry of course, for all of us, but at least this way the tour will happen, and Harry can get the treatment he needs. We hope you will join us in wishing him well.”

THUNDER’S SINGLE ON THE RADIO

is voted a
MASSIVE HIT

ON

CHRIS EVANS’ DRIVETIME JUKEBOX JURY

Last night’s Chris Evans Radio 2 show had a distinctly ‘Thunder’ theme to it. Having recently discovered what he’s been missing, Chris played a selection of Thunder’s hits on his show. Following a torrent of texts and e-mails from listeners, they decided (on-air) to make Thunder the subject for the ‘Top Tenuous’ spot.

And there’s more….They then decided to feature Thunder’s forthcoming single “On The Radio” on Drivetime Jukebox Jury. The verdict?

MASSIVE…. MONSTER… SMASH HIT!  You thought it was amazing… thought it was the best ever…. unbelievable stuff there!” said Chris Evans on air.We have subsequently learned that the show received over 3 times the normal number of texts and e-mails. On The Radio” is from Thunder’s latest album BANG! released on 3rd November. The song features typically witty lyrics from the boys, which ironically say they deserve more airplay. Too right they do!Thunder embark upon an 8-date UK tour on November 21st (full dates below). For a copy of the radio edit of “On The Radio” or for an interview, contact Emma Busk at the Publicity Connection.
