THE BLACK CROWES will release their new DVD, Cabin Fever on November 23rd, 2009 on their own Silver Arrow label. The DVD includes footage of the magical recording sessions that ultimately became their critically acclaimed CD, Before the Frost…Until the Freeze, which was released on 31st August this year. The innovative technique of inviting fans into the studio to become part of the recording process was a rare experience and wisely, the band filmed the sessions. Before the Frost…Until the Freeze was recorded over a series of five nights in front of an intimate studio audience at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY. The DVD of those sessions, Cabin Fever takes that experience one step further by allowing viewers to see behind the scenes footage of both the recording and song writing sessions, with lots of never before seen banter and interaction between the band and the audience. The DVD gives fans that weren’t there the chance to experience the magic. EXCLUSIVELY on the DVD will be THE ORIGINAL Little Lizzie Mae as well as COVERS of Velvet Underground’s Oh Sweet Nuthin & Fred Neil’s Dolphins. The DVD will also include the tracks Aimless Peacock, Good Morning Captain, Appaloosa, and Been a Long Time (Waiting on Love) among others from Before the Frost…Until the Freeze. Chris Robinson conceived the concept of both Before the Frost…Until the Freeze, and the DVD, Cabin Fever: “I think we fulfilled a musical commitment to continue on the golden road of artistic independence. Approaching 20 years into our careers, we still are ambitious enough to push ourselves to create something unique that we have never done before.” To view the CABIN FEVER DVD TRAILER go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVIR21dpIl8 Here’s what the media have said about Before the Frost…Until the Freeze “Two fine records without a duff track between them” (4 Out Of 4 Stars) Mojo “Honestly it’s brilliant...” Classic Rock Magazine “On this form, the Crowes really should be acknowledged as the best - and most versatile – American band of their generation.” London Lite “This is the one that long time fans have been waiting on, for a long time… their blend of Blues, soul, funk and country comes together magnificently… Twenty years on from their debut, this should put the Black Crowes back on top, where they belong” therocker.co.uk “The idea is inspired: gather an intimate audience and put them in a barn to watch you record your new material” and adds “…in many ways this is the album the Crowes have been meaning to record for years.” (3 1/2 stars) Rolling Stone “Frost’’ is prime Crowes, a set of songs about dudes who are buzzed, crooked, and haunted, all delivered with bluesy swagger and infused with psychedelic spirit….aptly utilizes the Crowes’ potent live presence. “ The Boston Globe
Not only critical acclaim but popular success has seen THE BLACK CROWES sell over 20 million albums worldwide. As they approach their upcoming 20th anniversary of the release of one of rock’s most influential records, Shake Your Money Maker, which produced such hits as Jealous Again, She Talks To Angels and Hard to Handle, they are time and again hailed as one of Rock and Roll’s best live acts. THE BLACK CROWES are: Chris Robinson (vocals), Rich Robinson (guitar, vocals), Steve Gorman (drums), Sven Pipien (bass), Adam MacDougall (keyboards) and Luther Dickinson (guitar). News that The Black Crowes are to play a one-off show in London on Sunday 17th May created such demand from their British fans that the show has been moved to the O2 Academy Brixton. Right from their start in 1990—with their six million-selling Shake Your Money Maker, a pivotal work that kick started an authentic style of rock and roll in America—The Black Crowes have been at odds with prevailing commercial trends. Their heady mix of '70s inflected rock, Funkadelic soul and heartfelt roots music jostled against the hair metal and high-gloss pop getting airplay at the start of that decade. While the sheer attitude and charm of "Hard To Handle," “Jealous Again,” "Twice As Hard" and “Remedy” managed to make big waves, the intervening years have seen the band steadily evolve an increasingly refined, singular sound that takes the best parts of hard rock, gospel, country, psychedelia and anything else it fancies into their hungry maw to create something several light years beyond the young men who recorded "She Talks To Angels." Having been hailed by Melody Maker as ‘The Most Rock and Roll Band In The World’ it is hardly surprising that their seventh studio album Warpaint released in March of last year, reached top 5 status on the US Billboard 200. Their powerful new album--the first on the band's own Silver Arrow Records, builds compellingly on the band’s trademark adventurous brew of rock, blues, country, soul and gospel, and finds the band in top fighting form. Today, anyone checking in will find The Black Crowes more dedicated than ever to their craft which has resulted with sales of 20 million albums worldwide. They’re not only a band with something to say; they have become known as one of rock’s best live acts and have been called a “thoroughbred American rock ‘n’ freakin’ roll band.” Their panoramic live shows feature alternating set lists and signature incendiary musical explorations that are designed to take audiences on a journey. Make sure you don’t miss what is sure to be one of the highlights of 2009 Rock ’n’ Roll calendar. “The Crowes still bang out that old-school boogie that might be three or four decades old if it wasn't brand-new.” Rolling Stone Magazine “… the musicianship was top-notch, and the new numbers well on a par with the more familiar material…” The Times
